Tour Description
Ephesus Ancient City opens for evening visits from 1 June through 1 October, on Wednesday-Saturday nights only. Entry is from the Lower Gate, and the route runs as far as the Temple of Hadrian — with the Celsus Library as the visual signature once the site lights come on around 20:00.
As a licensed DMC based in Selcuk, minutes from the site, we time the visit so you enter at 19:00 and are deep inside when the lights come on. That first moment — the marble streets and Celsus Library facade lit against the dusk — is best experienced from within the site, not from the gate queue. Tickets are arranged in advance and handed to your guide, so you skip the on-site ticket line entirely. Evenings outside the peak July-August weeks feel noticeably more comfortable than midday heat.
This is not a replacement for the daytime tour — the full upper route and the House of the Virgin Mary still require daytime hours. The Terrace Houses, however, are now open during the night museum until 21:00 and can be added as an optional evening extra. Treat the night tour as an atmospheric evening complement for guests staying in Selcuk or Kusadasi. Send us your dates to plan an evening visit.

Tour Program
18:15 Hotel Pick-up — Selcuk or Kusadasi
Your evening begins with a private transfer from your hotel — pickup is usually planned around 18:00-18:30, depending on your hotel location in Selcuk or Kusadasi, timed so you reach the Lower Gate about thirty minutes before the 19:00 opening. Arriving early matters: being inside the site when the lights come on is the first defining moment of the tour.
19:00 Lower Gate Entry — Harbour Street & Great Theatre
Enter the ancient city through the Lower Gate at 19:00 with tickets already in your guide’s hand — no queue. Walk Harbour Street, the marble avenue that once connected Ephesus to its port, then arrive at the Great Theatre, an approximately 25,000-seat structure carved into the hillside where the Apostle Paul faced the silversmiths of Ephesus. In the evening quiet, the scale of the theatre is far more apparent than during daytime crowds. (approximately 45 minutes)
20:00 Celsus Library, Curetes Street & Temple of Hadrian
By around 20:00, you reach the Celsus Library. As dusk gives way to full dark, the lights gradually come on — the exact moment shifts with the season — and the two-story facade illuminated against the night sky becomes the visual signature of the tour. From the library, climb Curetes Street, the city’s main thoroughfare, past the Trajan Fountain to the Temple of Hadrian, where the accessible night route ends. The path then turns back toward the Lower Gate. (approximately 1.5 to 2 hours)
As an optional evening add-on, the Terrace Houses — directly beside the Celsus Library on Curetes Street — can be visited before their 21:00 close, with tickets arranged in advance (approximately 30–45 minutes).
21:30 Return Transfer
Exit through the Lower Gate, where your driver is waiting, and transfer back to your hotel in Selcuk or Kusadasi. Selcuk town often remains lively in the evening — your guide can suggest a place for a late dinner before the return drive, if you would like to extend the night.

Tour FAQ
What time does the Ephesus Night Tour start in 2026?
The Ephesus Night Museum opens at 19:00. Ticket sales end at 22:00 and the site closes at 23:00. We aim to be at the Lower Gate about thirty minutes before opening — pickup from your hotel in Selcuk or Kusadasi is usually planned around 18:00-18:30, depending on your hotel location. Tickets are purchased in advance and handed to your guide, so you skip the on-site ticket queue.
Which days is Ephesus open at night?
In 2026, the Ephesus Night Museum runs from 1 June through 1 October, on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings only. Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday are reserved for scheduled events and are not open for regular night museum visits. We confirm available dates against your travel plan before booking.
Can cruise passengers take this tour?
This tour is realistic only for overnight cruise stops in Kusadasi or ships with very late evening departures. Standard cruise calls that leave in the afternoon or early evening cannot return in time, since the site does not open until 19:00. Please confirm your ship’s departure time when sending an inquiry.
Is the Upper Gate used on the night tour?
No. During night museum hours, the Upper Gate is closed. All evening visits enter and exit through the Lower Gate, and the accessible route runs only as far as the Temple of Hadrian before turning back. The full daytime route across the entire ancient city is not available at night.
Are the Terrace Houses included?
They are available as an optional add-on. For the 2026 season the Terrace Houses are open during the night museum until 21:00, so we can include them on your evening visit with tickets arranged in advance — they sit right beside the Celsus Library on Curetes Street. Because they close about two hours before the rest of the site, we visit them early in the evening. They are not part of the standard route, so let us know in advance if you would like to add them.
Is the night tour a replacement for a daytime Ephesus tour?
No — it is a complementary evening experience, not a substitute. The night tour covers the lower section of the city up to the Temple of Hadrian, with the focus on atmosphere, lighting, and photography; the Terrace Houses can be added as an optional evening extra. The full daytime tour still covers the complete archaeological route and surrounding sites like the House of the Virgin Mary.
Is this tour suitable for senior travelers?
The night tour involves a gentle uphill walk because all evening visits begin at the Lower Gate — the daytime route, which goes downhill from the Upper Gate, is closed at night. The incline up to the Celsus Library is moderate rather than steep, and the route ends at the Temple of Hadrian before turning back. For senior travelers comfortable with light incline, the cooler evening conditions often make the walk easier than midday heat.
How much walking is involved, and what should I bring?
Plan on about 2 to 2.5 hours of walking on uneven marble and cobblestone surfaces with gentle slopes. Wear comfortable flat-soled shoes. Bring a light jacket or layer — June, September, and early October evenings may feel cooler after sunset, while July and August evenings can still be warm. A phone light can be useful in less-illuminated sections.
Can we customize this itinerary?
Yes — every tour we run is private and can be adapted to your group. Common additions include a short evening walk through Selcuk town before pickup or a dinner stop after the tour. The night museum route itself within Ephesus is fixed by site regulations, but the pickup time, hotel, transfer schedule, and any add-ons before or after the visit can be tailored. Send your dates and preferences when sending an inquiry.
