Pilgrims flock to this location to pay their respects and honor the memory of the Virgin Mary, who lived in the house until her death.

10:00Ephesus Ancient City

After visiting the House of Virgin Mary, continue on to the ancient city of Ephesus. Located on the west coast of Asia Minor, Ephesus was once a major Greek and Roman city and is home to many iconic landmarks. Stroll through the ancient streets and marvel at the Celsus Library, the Temple of Hadrian, and the Trajan Fountain. End your journey at the Great Theater, where St. Paul is said to have preached.

Ephesus is an extremely splendid city, with a rich history dating back thousands of years. As the capital of ancient Anatolia, it is home to many architectural wonders, including the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world. The Ephesus Archaeological Site also holds symbols of high-level urbanization, architecture, and religious history belonging to different civilizations, including the Hellenistic and Roman periods.

14:30Basilica of St. John

The Basilica of St. John is an awe-inspiring sight, even in its ruined state. Large columns, frescos, and mosaics stand as a testament to the grandeur of this basilica, which was built during the reign of Emperor Justinian. Designed in the shape of a cross, the basilica was covered with six individual domes, the central one of which is thought to be directly above the burial site of St. John. Despite its ruins, the Basilica of St. John remains a beautiful and historic structure that should not be missed on any visit to Ephesus.

16:00Temple of Artemis (Diana)

The Temple of Artemis (Diana), one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, is located in Ephesus. Built during the Hellenistic Age, this incredible structure was entirely made of marble and adorned with sculptured columns, capitals, and shafts. However, today, only the ruins of its foundations remain, as the area of Ephesus has turned into swamps over the centuries. Some of the most beautiful remaining parts of the temple can be found in the London British Museum, including relics dating back to the 6th century BC when the temple was surrounded by 36 huge columns. Later, during the 6th century BC, the Lydian King, Kreisos, ordered the temple to be enlarged. Most of the exhibits in the London British Museum belong to this period.
