Tour Description

Departing directly from Kusadasi Cruise Port, this private shore excursion is fully timed around your ship’s schedule — your guide monitors your departure window and ensures you are back at the port well before sailing. There are no group buses, no waiting for strangers, and no rushed handoffs. Your licensed local guide meets you at the cruise terminal exit holding a sign with your name, and a private air-conditioned vehicle takes you directly to Ephesus Ancient City. There, you will walk the marble streets of one of the ancient world’s greatest cities — standing before the Celsus Library, the Great Theatre, the Temple of Hadrian, and the Trajan Fountain with time to take it all in, not just photograph it.

Ephesian is based in Selcuk, minutes from the archaeological site. We operate these tours on the ground daily, which means we know exactly when ships dock at Kusadasi, how long the transfer takes at different times of day, and which sections of Ephesus Ancient City fill with larger groups after 10:00 AM. We build your itinerary around this window — so your group walks the site during its quietest, most rewarding hours. Optional extensions to the House of the Virgin Mary or the Temple of Artemis can be added based on your available port time.

Once you meet your guide, you will board a private air-conditioned vehicle for the transfer to Ephesus Ancient City (approximately 15–20 minutes). Your departure time is set in advance to align with your ship’s arrival, so no time is wasted at the port.

STEP 2 Guided Visit to Ephesus Ancient City (approximately 2–2.5 hours)

Drive to an ancient Greek city, later a major Roman city, on the west coast of Asia Minor which called Ephesus, stroll past the Celsus Library, the Temple Of Hadrian and the Trajan Fountain in the Ancient Ephesus. After walking on the historical marble street the Great Theater where St. Paul preached will meet at the end.

The capital of the ancient city of Anatolia, Ephesus is an extremely splendid metropolis. This mega ancient city has been standing for thousands of years with its world-famous architectural monuments.

Based on Anatolia’s mother goddess (Kybele) tradition, the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient world, also increases the importance of Ephesus. The Ephesus Archaeological Site has symbols of high-level urbanization, architecture and religious history belonging to different civilizations, especially Hellenistic and Roman.

(approximately 30–45 minutes) Optional visit to Bulbul Mountain to see the House of the Virgin Mary, where she is believed to have spent her final years. A sacred site for both Christians and Muslims, it remains one of the most moving stops on any Ephesus itinerary.

Tour FAQ

Will we be back at the cruise ship on time?

Yes. Your tour is built entirely around your ship’s schedule. We confirm your port arrival and departure times before the tour and design the itinerary accordingly. Your guide monitors the timing throughout the day. You will be returned to Kusadasi Cruise Port well before your ship’s departure — this is our standard operating practice for every cruise group we work with.

Where do we meet our guide at Kusadasi port?

Your guide will be waiting at the exit gate of Kusadasi Cruise Port terminal, holding a sign with your name. The exit is a short walk from the gangway. No transportation is needed within the port — simply walk out of the terminal and your guide will be there.

How far is Ephesus from Kusadasi cruise port?

Ephesus Ancient City is approximately 20 kilometers from Kusadasi Cruise Port — about 15–20 minutes by private vehicle depending on traffic. This short transfer means more time at the site and less time in transit.

What happens if my cruise ship arrives late at Kusadasi?

We monitor ship arrivals and adjust your tour start time accordingly. If your ship docks late, your guide will wait. The itinerary will be adapted to fit your remaining port time — we will always prioritize getting you back to the ship safely over covering every site on the program.

Can we include the House of the Virgin Mary?

Yes. The House of the Virgin Mary is one of our most popular add-ons for cruise passengers. It adds approximately 30–45 minutes to the tour. We recommend confirming your ship’s departure time so we can advise whether it fits comfortably within your port window. Let us know when you submit your inquiry.

How much walking is required at Ephesus?

A visit to Ephesus Ancient City involves approximately 2–3 kilometers of walking on uneven marble and cobblestone surfaces. The terrain is moderately challenging — comfortable, flat-soled shoes are strongly recommended. The site is largely open-air with limited shade, so a hat and water are advisable, particularly between May and September.
