Tour Description

The Seven Churches of Revelation Tour with Istanbul & Cappadocia is an 11-day private journey to all seven churches of Asia Minor — Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamon, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea — set within the wider Christian story of Turkey. It begins in Istanbul at Hagia Sophia and the Hippodrome of Byzantine Constantinople, then continues to Cappadocia, where the rock-cut churches of the Goreme Open Air Museum recall the believers addressed in 1 Peter 1:1.

We operate the Istanbul and Cappadocia days ourselves: the guide is ours, the vehicles come directly from our transport partner, and no local agency stands in between. On the Seven Churches portion, a dedicated biblical guide connects each site to its letter in Revelation 2–3. Three included domestic flights — Istanbul to Cappadocia, Cappadocia to Izmir, and Izmir back to Istanbul — replace the long overland drives across Anatolia, and Hagia Sophia, now a mosque, is visited around prayer times.

From the Aegean coast the route runs through Kusadasi, Pamukkale, Bergama and Izmir in sequence, with the House of the Virgin Mary, the Basilica of St. John and Hierapolis along the way. Sightseeing and transfers are private for your party; only the Bosphorus cruise runs on a shared public boat.

Tour Program

Day 1 Istanbul Arrival

Welcome to Turkey. At Istanbul Airport our representative meets you and transfers you by private vehicle to your hotel. The rest of the day is free to settle in after the journey; guided sightseeing begins the following morning, so this day carries no fixed program and leaves room for the arrival time of your international flight. Overnight in Istanbul.

Day 2 Istanbul – Byzantine & Ottoman Heritage

Your guide meets you for a full day in the Old City. Begin at the Hippodrome, the stage of imperial ceremony and chariot races in Byzantine Constantinople, then visit the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia, built in the sixth century as the great cathedral of the Eastern Roman Empire; mosque visits are timed around prayer times. Continue to Topkapi Palace, residence of the Ottoman sultans, and finish in the vaulted lanes of the Grand Bazaar. Overnight in Istanbul.

Historical context: Constantinople, capital of the Christian Roman Empire from the fourth century.

Day 3 Spice Bazaar – Bosphorus Cruise – Fly to Cappadocia

After breakfast, walk through the Spice Bazaar, then see Istanbul from the water on a Bosphorus Cruise between the European and Asian shores, past palaces and waterfront mansions; the cruise operates on a shared public boat. Transfer to Istanbul Airport for the domestic flight to Kayseri or Nevsehir, depending on the flight schedule. On arrival, a private vehicle takes you to your hotel, with the evening at leisure. Overnight in Cappadocia.

Historical context: the Bosphorus, the strait between Europe and Asia that shaped Constantinople.

Day 4 Cappadocia – Goreme Open Air Museum – Pasabag – Devrent

Early risers can begin with an optional hot air balloon flight at sunrise, booked separately. After breakfast, your guide opens Cappadocia’s Christian story at the Goreme Open Air Museum, a Byzantine monastic complex of rock-cut churches whose frescoes depict the life of Christ. Continue to Pasabag Valley, where hermit monks lived inside the fairy chimneys, and to the volcanic formations of Devrent Valley. Lunch is included. Overnight in Cappadocia.

Biblical References: Acts 2:9 · 1 Peter 1:1

Day 5 Kaymakli Underground City – Pigeon Valley – Uchisar – Avanos

Descend into the Kaymakli Underground City, a network of tunnels, storerooms, kitchens and chapels used as shelter in times of insecurity. Back above ground, look across Pigeon Valley and its carved dovecotes, then reach Uchisar Castle, Cappadocia’s highest natural viewpoint. After lunch, continue to Avanos on the Kizilirmak River and watch artisans shape clay at a local pottery workshop, an image that recalls the potter’s house in Jeremiah. Overnight in Cappadocia.

Biblical References: Jeremiah 18:1–6

Day 6 Cappadocia – Fly to Izmir – Kusadasi

Depending on the domestic flight time, the morning is at leisure. A private transfer takes you to Kayseri or Nevsehir Airport for the flight to Izmir, where your driver continues with you to Kusadasi on the Aegean coast. The evening is free before the Seven Churches portion of the journey begins, with dinner included at your hotel. Overnight in Kusadasi.

Day 7 House of the Virgin Mary – Ephesus – Basilica of St. John

Begin at the House of the Virgin Mary, held by Christian tradition as Mary’s last home in the care of the Apostle John. In Ephesus Ancient City, the first of the seven churches and Paul’s base for nearly three years, walk the marble streets past the Library of Celsus and the Temple of Hadrian, and see the Great Theatre where the silversmiths’ riot unfolded. End at the Basilica of St. John, raised over the Apostle’s traditional tomb. Overnight in Kusadasi.

Biblical References: John 19:26–27 · Revelation 2:1–7 · Acts 19 · Acts 20:31

Day 8 Laodicea – Hierapolis – Pamukkale

Drive inland to Laodicea, the wealthy banking and textile city rebuked in Revelation for being lukewarm. Its excavated streets, theatres and church remains give a clear picture of the city behind the letter. Continue to Pamukkale for Hierapolis, named in Colossians alongside Laodicea in connection with the ministry of Epaphras, and walk out onto the white Pamukkale Travertines, formed by mineral-rich thermal springs. Overnight in Pamukkale.

Biblical References: Revelation 3:14–22 · Colossians 4:13–16

Day 9 Philadelphia – Sardis – Thyatira

Leave Pamukkale early for Philadelphia, the church praised for keeping Christ’s word, where later church remains stand in modern Alasehir. At Sardis, once the Lydian capital, see the Temple of Artemis and the city told to wake up and strengthen what remained. Visit the remains of Thyatira in Akhisar, commended for its love, faith and service, then continue to Bergama. Overnight in Bergama.

Biblical References: Revelation 3:7–13 · Revelation 3:1–6 · Revelation 2:18–29

Day 10 Pergamon – Smyrna

Climb to the Acropolis of Pergamon, the city of the church that held fast “where Satan’s throne is”, with its temple terraces and steep hillside theatre. Continue to Izmir and the Agora of Smyrna, the Roman marketplace of the city whose church was told to be faithful unto death. The guided program ends with the transfer to your hotel; this final night is on a bed and breakfast basis. Overnight in Izmir.

Biblical References: Revelation 2:12–17 · Revelation 2:8–11

Day 11 Izmir – Fly to Istanbul

After breakfast, transfer to Izmir Airport for the domestic flight back to Istanbul. As on the other two domestic flights, your economy ticket includes 25 kg of checked and 8 kg of cabin luggage. Our services end on arrival at Istanbul Airport, ready for your onward journey.

Alternative Durations

Eleven days covers the whole route: Istanbul, Cappadocia and all Seven Churches of Revelation, with the House of the Virgin Mary, the Basilica of St. John and Hierapolis. The ten- and twelve-day versions follow the same route with the same three domestic flights; what changes is how the days are arranged.

10 Days - Three Touring Days for the Seven Churches

The ten-day journey keeps the same Istanbul and Cappadocia days and covers the Seven Churches region in three touring days instead of four. After Ephesus, the House of the Virgin Mary and the Basilica of St. John, you continue the same day to Hierapolis and overnight in Pamukkale. The next day takes in Laodicea, Philadelphia, Sardis and Thyatira before Bergama, and the final touring day visits Pergamon and Smyrna.

  • 9 nights: Istanbul (two), Cappadocia (three), Kusadasi, Pamukkale, Bergama, Izmir
  • 3 Seven Churches touring days, the same biblical sites
  • More sites on each Seven Churches touring day
  • Choose this when your schedule allows ten days rather than eleven

12 Days - A Day for Christian Constantinople

The twelve-day journey adds a third guided day in Istanbul devoted to the city's Christian heritage. Visit the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Patriarchal Church of St. George, the Church of St. Mary of the Mongols, still in use by the Greek Orthodox community, and the Bulgarian St. Stephen Church, built from prefabricated cast iron. A walk through the historic streets of Fener and Balat leads to the Church of St. Mary of Blachernae, a centre of Marian devotion in Byzantine Constantinople. Cappadocia and the Seven Churches follow as in the eleven-day program.

  • 11 nights: Istanbul (three), Cappadocia (three), Kusadasi (two), Pamukkale, Bergama, Izmir
  • An additional guided day for Istanbul's Christian heritage
  • The same Cappadocia days and four Seven Churches touring days
  • Choose this when Christian Constantinople matters to you as much as the churches of Revelation

Every version is private, with a professional English-speaking guide on sightseeing days and all three domestic flights included; only the Bosphorus cruise operates on a shared boat. Share your travel dates, arrival and departure times, and what matters most to you on this journey. We will help you choose the ten-, eleven- or twelve-day program and send you the full day-by-day itinerary.

Tour FAQ

How do we travel between Istanbul, Cappadocia and the seven churches?

By three included domestic flights and private vehicle. You fly from Istanbul to Kayseri or Nevsehir on Day 3, depending on the flight schedule, from Cappadocia to Izmir on Day 6, and from Izmir back to Istanbul on Day 11, each in economy with 25 kg checked and 8 kg cabin luggage. On the ground, a private air-conditioned vehicle carries you between the sites, with overnights in Kusadasi, Pamukkale, Bergama and Izmir so no day requires doubling back.

Is this a private tour, and can we book for just two people?

Yes. Two people can book this tour, and your sightseeing and ground transportation are arranged exclusively for your party. You will not be joined by another tour group. The Bosphorus cruise in Istanbul operates on a shared public boat, as noted in the itinerary. Solo travelers and larger private parties receive a personalized quotation.

Is the hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia included?

No. The balloon flight is optional and booked separately. It takes place at sunrise on the morning of Day 4, before the day’s guided program begins, and flights depend on the weather conditions that morning. Mention it in your inquiry and we will include it in your personalized quotation.

Which duration should we choose: 7, 10, 11 or 12 days?

Choose by what you want besides the seven churches. The 7-day tour combines Istanbul with all seven churches and does not include Cappadocia. The 10-, 11- and 12-day versions add two guided days in Cappadocia; the 11-day program gives Ephesus a day of its own, and the 12-day program adds a day for Christian Constantinople in Fener and Balat. Any version can be adjusted to your dates and interests in your personalized program.

Which hotels are used and what meals are included?

You stay for 10 nights in selected 4-star, 5-star and boutique hotels. Breakfast is included daily. In Cappadocia, lunch is included on both touring days. From the Kusadasi arrival on Day 6, lunch is served at local restaurants and dinner at the hotels, except on the final night in Izmir, where your stay includes breakfast only. Beverages during meals are not included. Hotel details come with your personalized day-by-day program.

Are the tours guided by biblical experts?

Yes. A professional English-speaking guide leads every sightseeing day, and on the Seven Churches portion a dedicated biblical guide reads the relevant Revelation passages on site at each of the seven churches. In Istanbul and Cappadocia, your guide is employed by us directly rather than through a local agency.

How much walking is required?

A moderate amount. Most touring days include several hours on foot at archaeological sites with uneven ancient surfaces, the Acropolis of Pergamon involves steeper terrain, and Kaymakli Underground City has narrow, low passages and stairs. Comfortable walking shoes are essential; the pace is private, so your guide can adjust it to your group.

What’s included in the price?

The price includes 10 nights of accommodation, meals as listed in the itinerary, all three domestic flights, private airport transfers and ground transportation, a professional English-speaking biblical guide on sightseeing days, entrance fees and local taxes. International flights, the hot air balloon ride, travel insurance, visa fees, beverages during meals, personal expenses and gratuities are not included.
