Tour Program
Step 1 Kusadasi Hotel Pickup
Your licensed guide and private vehicle collect you directly from your hotel in Kusadasi. Unlike cruise passengers who must coordinate around ship schedules, hotel guests have full flexibility on start time — early morning for a quieter site, or mid-morning if you prefer a relaxed breakfast first. The drive to Ephesus Ancient City takes approximately 20 minutes.
Step 2 Guided Visit of Ephesus Ancient City
You enter through the upper gate and walk downhill along Curetes Street — the marble-paved main avenue of one of the best-preserved Roman cities in the world. The route passes the Temple of Hadrian, with its carved arch and Medusa frieze still largely intact, and the Trajan Fountain, which once channelled water across the city. The walk continues to the ornate two-storey facade of the Celsus Library, built to hold 12,000 scrolls and serve as the tomb of the Roman governor Celsus. At the lower end of Marble Street stands the Great Theatre — 25,000 seats, and the same stage where, according to Acts 19, a crowd gathered against the Apostle Paul. For guests who want to go further, the Terrace Houses — a separately ticketed section of intact Roman frescoes, mosaics, and private baths — can be added here. (approximately 2–2.5 hours)
Step 3 House of the Virgin Mary (optional add-on)
A 10-minute drive uphill from the ancient city brings you to the House of the Virgin Mary — a hillside sanctuary in pine forest, traditionally believed to be where Mary spent her final years. Recognised by the Vatican and visited by Christian, Catholic, and Muslim pilgrims alike. The chapel is small and quiet — a deliberate contrast to the scale of Ephesus below. (approximately 45 minutes)
Step 4 Temple of Artemis (optional add-on)
Located just outside Selcuk, the Temple of Artemis was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World — once four times the size of the Parthenon in Athens. A single reconstructed column now marks the site. The scale of what stood here is best appreciated with your guide’s context on why pilgrims once travelled across the Mediterranean to reach it. (approximately 20–30 minutes)
Step 5 Basilica of St. John (optional add-on)
Set on Ayasoluk Hill above Selcuk, the Basilica of St. John was built by Emperor Justinian in the 6th century over the believed burial site of the Apostle John. The hilltop location offers a panoramic view across the valley toward the Ephesus ruins and the Aegean coastline. (approximately 30 minutes)
Step 6 Return to Kusadasi Hotel
Private transfer back to your hotel upon completion, timing according to guest’s needs.
